Kia releases promo video for new Sportage

As evidenced by its not-so-subtle appearances in this new promo video, Kia wants us to think of one word when talking about the new Sportage: ‘wow’

For the most part, it’s hard not to agree with that; releasing one of the most entertaining promo videos helps a lot too. Combining colorful graphics with some pretty slick shots of the Tucson’s exterior and interior – we love the orange stitching on those seats – this promo video hits the mark in, well, ‘promoting’ the Sportage. Not to the full extent of ‘wow’, but close enough.

The Sportage actually shares its platform with its local Hyundai counterpart, the Tucson, so if you can attest to the overall package of the Tucson, chances are you’re going to feel the same way for the Sportage.

As it stands, the Sportage is set for a fall arrival in the US and similar to the Tucson, will also come with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with a later option for a smaller 2.0-liter variant.

Nexus scooter concept for airports

Nexus scooter concept

This may not look like a student’s regular scooter concept, but more like an ingenious mean of short distance commuting inside airports. It is called Nexus and designer Francisco Lupin thought at everything to make it happen: two electric engines fed by four 12V batteries will supposedly be capable to power what we like to call the suitcase scooter to a top speed of 15 km/h (9.3 mph) while carrying a maximum load of 110 kg (242.5 pounds). It will go like this for two hours before emptying the batteries.

The Nexus can also be used as a regular suitcase when the batteries are empty and as long as it will fit in the overhead compartment, I’m buying one as soon as they start making it…if it ever happens, of course.

If there’s anything the auto industry has taught us – or in any other aspect of life, for that matter – it’s that time flies faster than you think. That’s especially true now because Infiniti is celebrating its 20th anniversary in US soil this year. That’s right; 20 years.

Chief Designer Wants Mazda RX-7 Revival

4.

Chief Designer for Mazda, Ikuo Maeda has some feelings about the revival of the RX-7.

“I do have a strong yearning to revive the RX-7 during my tenure,” Maeda said. “But in order for that to happen, we need the U.S. economy to come back, first and foremost.”

Well, gee, thanks Maeda. We’re glad to know that you are thinking of our well-being. Oh wait, probably not. Well at least we might get the opportunity to see a revival of the RX-7 featuring a 16X rotary engine in the near future. But don’t expect a high-powered sports car. Mazda is still experimenting with forced induction so we probably won’t see that in the first batch of this much anticipated comeback. Sources say that the new RX-7 will be an affordable, user-friendly sports car with a reasonable price tag of $30,000USD.

Ghost bike or the most aerodynamic Skeleton ever

Ghost bike

The Skeletor is a truly unique custom made motorcycle by Vardenchi Customs from India and guess what. It doesn’t have a V-twin engine or much chrome to make it shine as it is ridden down the freeway, but its builder declares: “I’ve never got so many stares on a motorcycle before.” That is most likely because after hours and hours of hard work, the Skeletor motorcycle looks like it just rode out of a graveyard in a MJ-like music video.

The scary looking thing was actually ordered by a Mumbai celebrity and it took Vardenchi Customs three months to complete. It looks like the very demanding customer isn’t craving for an impressive horsepower figure, just a way to stand out furthermore from the crowd.

Based on a Vardenchi Classic, the Skeletor features the shop’s regular frame and two-arm-swinger, while the fork meets the frame at a rake angle that helps making it look like engaging in a some sort of attack position. On top of the original frame, this custom gets a bone-like look with a metal matte silver paintjob. Okay, this isn’t a prety sight in your rear view mirror, but it will sure let paparazzi know when their target is on the move.

Designer reveals new-look Lamborghini Miura Nuovo Concept

The auto industry has had a lot of ‘what-ifs’ attached to it and if the pendulum would have swung the other way, you would think that the present make-up of the industry would be different.

One of these ‘what-ifs’ that we couldn’t escape asking concerns the legendary Lamborghini Miura and we’ve asked ourselves time and again,

“What if Lamborghini brought back the Miura in the present time? What kind of car would it be?”

Well, it may not have come straight from Lamborghini themselves, but at least one designer seems to have an idea as to what it should look like.
His design concept, which he’s calling the “Lamborghini Miura Nuovo”, should give us an indication as to how one of history’s greatest cars should look when it’s reborn in 2010. Of course, this is nothing more than just a design rendering but given the original Miura’s mid-rear V12 engine, you would think that an engine like that, coupled with a timeless name like ‘Miura’, is sure to attract its fair share of attention.

Video: The 2011 Bentley Mulsanne’s Art of Color

Bentley has a long-standing reputation for building some of the world’s most luxurious cars and that reputation has been carefully preserved by the company. After all, with the atmospheric prices of their cars, you would hope that they are doing all they can to justify the price tag.

Well if you’re curious to know the production process going on in Bentley, the company was kind enough to give us a glimpse of one of the stages behind the production of their latest flagship sedan, the Mulsanne.
This video takes us on an unprecedented look at how a Bentley Mulsanne is transformed from a plain-looking white body to a glittering and fully-painted vehicle. Fascinating stuff.

The Mulsanne gets six different layers of paint - three for the top coat, and two coats of lacquer – and will be available in both Satin and two-tone versions will be possible.

Bentley also announced that prospective customers can choose from over 115 different colors, 28 of which were created just for the Mulsanne. We didn’t know that you could create new colors, but apparently you can.

Check out the video to see part of the process of how the Mulsanne is what it is – a luxury car of the highest order.
